One of the first questions families ask is how long each piano lesson should be. The right length depends on the student’s age, focus and goals. Here’s a quick guide.
30-minute lessons
Thirty minutes is usually the best fit for young beginners (around ages 4–7). Short, focused lessons keep things fun, and there’s still time for a new piece, a rhythm game and some ear training.
45-minute lessons
Forty-five minutes suits older children and beginners who are progressing quickly. The extra time lets us work on technique, repertoire and theory in the same lesson, without rushing.
60-minute lessons
A full hour works well for intermediate students, adults and anyone preparing for an RCM exam. Longer pieces, scales, sight-reading and theory all need room to breathe.
